Popular manga. Nightwing's 300th issue special included Jujutsu Kaisen as an unexpected guest.

That character in April 16's Nightwing #300's backdrop looks like Yuji Itadori from Jujutsu Kaisen, a popular manga/anime.

Jujutsu Kaisen and the DC Universe are likely meeting for an unofficial tribute rather than a crossover.

But it's a nice homage to western superhero comics and manga's legacy of youthful, powerful heroes learning their powers.

Characters that differ enough from their canonical depictions have long appeared in rival books in western superhero comics.

In the 1960s, the Avengers fought the Squadron Supreme (pastiches of the Justice League) and the Justice League fought the Champions of Angor (thinly veiled Avengers who were later called 'The Retaliators').

Nightwing #300 primary artist Daniele Di Nicuolo's Jujutsu Kaisen Easter egg (perhaps collaborating with series writer Tom Taylor) is entertaining because the ritual rarely crosses seas.

However, manga has been interacting with western comics for some time, making this unofficial cameo feel oddly appropriate.

Due to younger artists who grew up reading manga alongside Marvel and DC titles, manga influences have grown strongly in western comics, and Di Nicuolo's manga-esque style fits the main story's interaction between Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, and Damian Wayne.
