NFL mock draft roundup: Confusion grows around pick No. 2

With less than two weeks until the 2024 NFL Draft on April 25 in Detroit, experts are releasing their final mock drafts.

This is your one-stop shop for the most recent predictions, including the top five picks, players on the rise and fall, surprise picks, and prospective trade targets.

This week's experts include NFL.com's Gennaro Filice, Pro Football Focus' Sam Monson, and USA Today's Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz.

Monson calls this the "surest pick in the draft," and he's correct. The Bears need to replace quarterback Justin Fields after dealing him to the Steelers, and Williams is the logical candidate.

From 2022 to 2023, the Heisman Trophy winner threw for 8,170 yards, 72 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions.

The discussion about who will be the second quarterback off the board is clearly ongoing, with each of the three experts putting forward a different name.

Filice believes Maye might be "déjà vu at No. 2" in the same way that C.J. Stroud was overthought in the lead-up to last year's selection. He has passed for 7,929 yards, 62 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions over the last two seasons.

Monson believes the NFL likes McCarthy "more than the public or the media." His draft ranking has been improving since he led the Wolverines to a national title in 2022-23, throwing for 5,710 yards, 44 touchdowns, and only nine interceptions.
