Man City vs Real Madrid 4-3 on penalties: Champions League – as it happened

Here are the updates as Real Madrid defeated Manchester City 4-3 on penalties in the Champions League on Wednesday, April 17:  

Real Madrid defeats defending champions Manchester City in a penalty shootout in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal.  

The game ended 1-1 on the night and 4-4 on aggregate, after a 3-3 tie at the Bernabeu.  

Vinicius Junior set up Rodrygo for the Madrid goal, which he scored on the second attempt after Ederson made a save.  

Kevin De Bruyne deservedly equalised for City in the second half of a one-sided contest.  

City now leads the Premier League by two points, while Real Madrid leads La Liga by eight points.  

Bayern Munich defeated Arsenal 1-0 in the night's other tie, advancing 3-2 on aggregate.  

Bayern will meet Madrid in the semifinals.  

Paris Saint-Germain defeated Barcelona in our featured match on Tuesday, while Borussia Dortmund defeated Atletico Madrid.
