LIV Golf Makes Huge Offer to Entice Rory McIlroy Away From PGA: Report

According to a story in London's City A.M. newspaper, LIV Golf made an unusual offer to Rory McIlroy in order to attract him away from the PGA Tour.

McIlroy, with four major tournament wins, has long been considered as the PGA Tour's face.

The PGA Tour continues to dominate the sport, with well-known players such as Tiger Woods, Scottie Scheffler, and, of course, McIlroy competing.LIV, meantime, has lived up to its advertising as "golf,

but louder" by spending big money to attract talents such as Dustin Johnson, Lee Westwood, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Brooks Koepka.

If LIV signs McIlroy, the balance of power might shift considerably to the Saudi-backed upstart league.

According to the City A.M. article, two unidentified sources say a deal to bring McIlroy to LIV "is close."It goes on to say that LIV has already offered McIlroy about a billion dollars to join, in exchange for 2% ownership of the company.

If McIlroy accepts, the announcement might come after The Masters, according to the story released Sunday.

As recently as 2023, McIlroy may be heard discussing how dreadful it would be to sign with LIV. "If LIV Golf was the last place to play golf on earth, I would retire," McIlroy told Reuters last year. "That's how I feel about it."
