Hawks eliminated from play-in, Bulls move on to face Heat

The city of Chicago-- The sold-out United Center went into a raucous celebration when Coby White made a long 3-pointer on Wednesday night, extending the Chicago Bulls' lead to 21 points in the fourth quarter.

White led the Bulls to a 131-116 victory over the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference play-in game

His career-high 42 points were the second-most by a player in a play-in game (Jayson Tatum had 50 in 2021), and it was also his first 40-point game.

Though he was unhappy to hear it, White's career regular-season and postseason statistics will not be affected by this game.

"It's on the stat sheet right here," White remarked, smiling, while pointing to the paper in his hand at the postgame news conference.

Following Wednesday's elimination game victory against the Hawks, the Bulls will face the Heat again on Friday night for the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

The winner will advance to a first-round series against the Boston Celtics, thanks in large part to White's effort. Philadelphia defeated Miami 105-104 in Wednesday's other play-in game.

The Bulls have an opportunity to exact revenge for their 2023 play-in game loss, which also took place in Miami
