Denny Hamlin's winning bid ends in Texas-sized heartbreak

Winning bid by Denny Hamlin ends in Texas-sized sadness Denny Hamlin's search for a third NASCAR Cup Series win this season ended in overtime.

Hamlin restarted with race leader Chase Elliott for a green-white-checkered finish in Sunday's Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Texas Motor Speedway on his first of two NASCAR Overtime tries.

Hamlin and Elliott battled door-to-door into Turns 3 and 4, but his No. 11 Toyota spun into the outside wall exiting Turn 4 after snapping sideways midcorner.

Hamlin, who has won at Bristol Motor Speedway and Richmond Raceway this season, was poised for a top-two finish when the collision occurred.

Sunday, Hamlin led 37 laps, including 15 of the final 21.

Despite leading laps in all nine races this season, Hamlin finished 30th unofficially, his third time outside the top 10 in five races.

Both top 10s Hamlin has had in the past five events have led to wins.
