An Oregon defensive back was arrested for a fatal hit-and-run that killed a 46-year-old man.

An Oregon football player was arrested for a tragic hit-and-run. The Eugene Police Department (EPD) announced on social media that Daylen Amir Austin, 19, was arrested and charged with felony hit and run after allegedly killing a 46-year-old man.

Police reported a 9:10 p.m. hit-and-run at W. 4th and Polk on Monday, April 15. The announcement said Austin was arrested about 11:45 p.m. couple hours later.

The EPD stated that a “complex investigation” was underway and that investigators are “still gathering information” for the Lane County District Attorney’s Office to make a “final charging decision.”

KPTV reported that Austin was arraigned on Wednesday, April 17, via video connection from jail. He didn't plead then.

Seth Lockard, a neighbor near the hit-and-run, told the outlet he heard a fast-moving automobile near his house. Trying to figure out what happened, he said.

He told KPTV, “It sounds like he was just doing circles for 10-15 minutes, going really fast. You could hear automobile exhaust.” “My wife heard a thump and that was rough,” he said.

She didn't build it. I heard sirens when she thought he hit a tree. After that, I observed the scene outdoors. All those police cars and tape. I felt sad and angry.

Lockard told the publication that community people lit candles in remembrance of the unidentified deceased guy. According to Oregon's athletics website, freshman Austin plays defensive back for the Ducks. This Long Beach native played at Long Beach Poly High.
