A $1 bill might be worth up to $150,000. Here is how to verify.    

Use any $1 bills in your wallet or under your sofa with caution.  

Due to a production error, U.S. currency collectors will pay up to $150,000 for certain dollar bills.  

Wealthynickel.com reports that some 2014 and 2016 dollar bills have a US Bureau of Engraving and Printing error that may fetch collectors $150,000.  

Everything you need to know:  

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing manufactured 6.4 million banknotes with the mistake in 2014 and 2016.  

The New York federal bank issued one batch and Washington D.C. issued the other,  

although the bills might be anywhere. Only nine pairs with matching serial numbers have been located, leaving millions in circulation.  

WealthyNickel estimates a matching pair costs $20,000–$150,000, depending on condition. The American Numismatic Association, a congressionally established charity that studies and collects notes and coins, says currency misprints are rare and precious to collectors.
